India-China Relations History 101: Sino-Indian Border Conflict

Here’s what we could read in the Indian Express on Sunday:

Oh! Did I mention that India and China were at war in 1962 and have had border issues for some time now?

In 1962, Jawarlal Nehru, father of the liberation of India from the colonial British regime, attempted to negotiate with China to settle some of the land disputes opposing both countries. His plan was to trade the settlement of the disputed Aksai Chin region in favor of China and to obtain, in return, the settlement in its favor of another disputed region at the crossroads of Pakistan, China and India (Indian N-W border). The plan didn’t go on as Nehru wished and on October 10, 1962, the Peoples Liberation Army (Chinese PLA) attacked an Indian Patrol (Indian Military), north of the McMahon Line. India lost both the disputed Aksai Chin and N-W regions.
